Privacy Policy
Last updated October 11, 2026. GasCast collects as little as possible. We don't run ads, we don't use tracking or analytics tools, and we never sell or rent your personal information.
This policy explains what information GasCast ("GasCast", "we", "us") collects when you use the GasCast website, the installable Windows app, the iPhone app and the Android app (together, the "Service"), how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices and rights you have. By using the Service you agree to this policy. If you don't agree, please don't use the Service. This policy should be read together with our Terms of Use.
1. Using GasCast without an account
You can use the free version without signing up. GasCast doesn't ask for your name, phone number, address or location, and the apps don't use your device's GPS. Your settings (light or dark mode, language, your watchlist, chart choices) are saved only on your own device, in your browser's local storage or the app's settings, and are not sent to us.
Trade journal. The trade journal is saved only on your own device (in your browser's local storage, or in the iPhone or Android app's storage). It is never sent to GasCast and we can't see, recover or restore it. Clearing your browser data, uninstalling the app or switching devices removes it, so use Export to keep a copy.
2. What we collect, and why
| What | When | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Email address | When you subscribe on the web, sign in, or sign up for report emails | To link your subscription, send sign-in links, send receipts and important account notices and, if you choose, the daily report email |
| Subscription details | When you subscribe on the web | Plan, status, trial and renewal dates, and the Stripe customer ID, to know whether you have Pro and to manage billing |
| Sign-in cookie | When you sign in on the web | A signed, secure cookie that keeps you signed in on that browser. It isn't used for tracking or advertising. |
| Notification subscription | When you turn on Windows, browser or phone alerts | The push address your browser, Apple or Google gives us and your alert choices, including your Pro+ alert choices (for example, consensus move size and nuclear outage threshold), only to send the alerts you picked |
| Discord webhook link | When you add GasCast to a Discord channel | To post free updates to that channel. Delete the webhook in Discord to stop. |
| Contact messages | When you use the contact form or email us | Your name (if given), email address and message, to reply to you and keep a record of support requests |
| App subscription receipts | When you subscribe in the iPhone or Android app | Apple's or Google's signed receipt (product, purchase and expiry dates, and an anonymous transaction ID), to confirm Pro. We don't receive your name, Apple ID, Google account or payment details. |
| Technical information | Whenever you use the Service | Like almost every website, our hosting provider automatically receives your IP address, browser or app version, device type and the pages or data requested. This is used to deliver the Service, keep it secure, prevent abuse and fix problems. We don't use it to build profiles of you. |
We don't knowingly collect sensitive information such as government ID numbers, health information, precise location, or information about your trading accounts or positions. Please don't send us that kind of information through the contact form.
3. Cookies and local storage
GasCast uses only what is needed for the Service to work: the sign-in cookie described above, and your browser's local storage for your settings. We don't use advertising cookies, tracking pixels, cross-site tracking or third-party analytics. Because we don't track you across sites, we don't respond differently to "Do Not Track" signals; there is nothing for them to turn off. The website loads its font from Google Fonts, which means your browser connects to Google's servers and Google receives your IP address under Google's privacy policy.
4. How we use information
- To provide the Service, including Pro features, alerts and report emails you asked for.
- To process subscriptions, free trials, renewals, cancellations and refunds.
- To send sign-in links, receipts, and important notices about your account, billing, security or changes to our terms.
- To answer your questions and support requests.
- To keep the Service secure, prevent fraud and abuse, and enforce our Terms of Use.
- To fix bugs and improve reliability.
- To comply with law, including tax and accounting rules, and to respond to lawful requests.
We don't sell your personal information, share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, or use it to make decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects on you.
5. Payments
Web payments are handled by Stripe. Your card details go straight to Stripe and never reach GasCast; we only receive limited details such as your email, plan, payment status, card brand and last four digits. Phone app payments are handled entirely by Apple or Google under their own privacy policies.
6. Who we share it with
We share personal information only with service providers that help us run GasCast, and only what each one needs:
- Cloudflare hosts the website, apps' data service and the records above.
- Stripe processes web payments and manages web subscriptions.
- Resend delivers sign-in links, receipts and report emails.
- Apple and Google process in-app purchases and deliver phone push notifications. Browser push notifications are delivered through your browser maker's push service (for example Microsoft, Google, Mozilla or Apple).
- Discord receives the updates you choose to post to your own channel.
- Google Fonts serves the website's font, as described above.
- Anthropic writes the plain-English forecast summaries from weather and energy figures only. It never receives information about you.
- Forecast and market data comes from public and licensed sources (NOAA, Open-Meteo, ECMWF, EIA, the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, the National Hurricane Center and pipeline operators). They never receive information about you.
We may also disclose information (a) if required by law, subpoena, court order or other legal process; (b) to protect the rights, property or safety of GasCast, our users or others, or to investigate fraud or abuse; or (c) as part of a merger, acquisition, financing or sale of all or part of GasCast, in which case the buyer will be bound by this policy for the information it receives.
7. Where information is stored
GasCast is operated from the United States. Our service providers may store and process information in the United States and other countries, which may have different data protection laws from where you live. Where required, we rely on our providers' standard contractual clauses or other lawful transfer mechanisms. By using the Service you understand that your information may be transferred to and processed in the United States.
8. How long we keep it
- Subscription and billing records: while you're a customer, and afterwards as long as needed for tax, accounting and legal purposes (usually up to 7 years).
- Email address for report emails: until you unsubscribe.
- Notification subscriptions: until you turn alerts off or they stop working.
- Contact messages: up to 2 years after the conversation ends.
- Technical logs kept by our hosting provider: for a short period, typically days to a few weeks.
When information is no longer needed, we delete it or make it anonymous.
9. Security
We use reasonable safeguards, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), signed and secure cookies, restricted access to secret keys, and providers with strong security practices. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security. If we learn of a breach that affects your personal information, we'll notify you and the authorities as required by law.
10. Your choices and rights
- Emails: turn off report emails in Account or with the unsubscribe link in each email. We may still send essential account and billing messages.
- Alerts: turn them off in GasCast or in your device or browser settings.
- Subscription: cancel web subscriptions in Account → Manage subscription, and app subscriptions in your Apple ID or Google Play settings.
- Access, correction and deletion: you can ask to see a copy of your information, correct it, or delete it. Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to object to or restrict certain uses, to data portability, and to withdraw consent.
To make a request, use the contact form or email us. We may need to verify your identity, for example by confirming your email address. We'll respond within the time required by law (generally 30 to 45 days) and won't treat you differently for using your rights. We'll delete what we're not required to keep for legal reasons.
California residents: under the California Consumer Privacy Act you have the right to know what personal information we collect, use and disclose, to delete it, to correct it, and not to be discriminated against for using these rights. We don't sell or share personal information as those terms are defined in that law. You can use an authorized agent to make a request.
European Economic Area, United Kingdom and Switzerland: we process your information to perform our contract with you (providing the Service and subscriptions), based on our legitimate interests (security, fraud prevention and improving reliability, balanced against your rights), to comply with legal obligations, and with your consent where required (such as report emails and alerts, which you can withdraw at any time). You have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
11. Children
GasCast is meant for adults and is not directed to children. We don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13 (or under 16 in the EEA and UK). Subscriptions require you to be at least 18. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we'll delete it.
12. Links to other sites
GasCast links to other websites and services, such as NOAA, the EIA, Discord, Stripe, Apple and Google. We aren't responsible for their content or privacy practices. Please read their privacy policies.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The new version will be posted on this page with a new date. If a change is significant, we'll give notice in the Service or by email before it takes effect. If you keep using the Service after a change takes effect, the updated policy applies.
14. Language
Translations of this policy are provided for convenience. If there is any conflict between a translation and the English version, the English version controls.
15. Contact
Questions or requests about privacy: use the contact form or email [email protected].
